Ostby & Barton fine jewelers 10k gold and ruby like gem (ruby or possibly Bohemian garnets...) post earrings with screw on backs - threaded post antique pierced earrings
These are from the early 1900's it seems - if not earlier as this style started to be made in the late 1800's.
Østby & Barton, out of Providence, Rhode Island from about 1880 to the mid century (1950's).
Østby & Barton was formed by Engelhart Østby - a master engraver and jeweler trained in Oslo - and a partner Nathan Barton.
One of the leading manufacturers of fine jewelry at the turn of the century.
Other than its very fine workmanship and quality gems, the jewelry is highly collectible because Mr. Østby was one of the passengers who died on the Titanic on April 15th, 1912. He was returning 1st Class from one of his buying trips in Europe with his daughter, Helene. Helene survived.
They have wear and aging and of course are delicate and will require gentle handling, but look in pretty good antique condition.
They must be hard to come by as I've found few that were even a little similar. Only one other pair that was marked 10k with no maker's marks or hallmarks and one of that pair was badly broken and they have it marked at over $100.00 !
This pair of ours is clearly marked and very nice as you can see.
Please, look to see what else we have.
