Beautiful, antique hand carved shell cameo set in what looks possibly like real gold pin/brooch.
Probably Victorian from the mid 1800's to the early 1900's.
Roman or Greek profile portrait.
If you look closely at the carving, you can see the maker's tools marks.
There is a mark on the fold over part of the safety clasp.
*I took several photos of it, but as it is on a curve, I couldn't get it all in one photo so I found a photo of the mark online and added it here. It is from the online jewelry group Jewelry Ring.
This is not a photo from the item in this listing, just a better look at the mark.
Also, if anyone knows who used this maker's mark, I'd be glad to hear from you.
This brooch (including the bezel frame) is about 1 1/4 inches high and about 1" wide.
The carving itself is about 7/8" high, 11/16" wide and from 1/8" to 1/4" thick.
There is quite a bit of normal wear and age spots as is expected of a piece this old.
There is also a spot on top at the back that looks like it may at one time have had a hinged or stationary bail to convert this into a pendant.
We reduced this to 155 because of the wear issues and because I'm not yet sure of the level of gold content and until I can figure out whose maker's mark it has.
The condition issues are not that noticeable from the front so no one will know but you, but we are giving you a deal on this just the same.
*Whenever you wish to clean this, or any vintage jewelry, please check to make sure the everything is very secure and then have the pieces of vintage jewelry gently cleaned by a jeweler or collector who understands delicate, vintage jewelry.
*All items are "as is" and there are no returns so please read the descriptions and see the photos before you buy.
